Hosts West Indies made the perfect start to their World Cup campaign with a 54-run win over Pakistan in the tournament opener in Jamaica.

All-rounder Dwayne Smith smashed a rapid 32 from 15 balls to help the Windies set a target of 242 at Sabina Park and then took three for 36 as Pakistan were shot out for 187.

Shoaib Malik top-scored for Pakistan with 62 but the hosts stayed on top after Marlon Samuels hit 63 and Ramnaresh Sarwan 49.
