Superleague National Cup finals take place on Sunday

The SuperLeague’s Men’s and Women’s basketball finals take place this coming Sunday in the National Basketball Arena.

In the Men’s final UCC Demons and Abrakebabra Tigers will come head to head at 3:15pm.

The big news from the Demon’s camp is that captain Tim O’Halloran is struggling with a pulled muscle in his back but Coach Pat Price is hopeful that his skipper will be available for selection on Sunday. Shane Coughlan has come down with a dose of flu but should also be available for Sunday’s clash.

Abrakebabra Tigers, from Tralee, are at full strength, with the added bonus of Kieran Donaghy selecting to play in this Sunday’s Final instead of taking part in the GAA All-Star’s tour in Dubai. Donaghy scored 18 points against the Limerick Lions last weekend and will be a major threat for the Tigers but with Americans LeShon Sheffield and Dave Fanning firing on all cylinders for the Rebels, Demons will be quietly confident that they can retain their National Cup crown.

The previous meeting between these two sides took place way back in October at the Mardyke Arena with Tigers running out 107-101 winners, but with Demon’s impressive National Cup record the game is almost too close to call.

In the Women’s SuperLeague clash Team Montenotte Hotel will square up to UL Aughinish on Sunday at 1.00pm.

Both sides have been almost polar opposites in the WSL, with Montenotte second from bottom while UL have been streaking ahead at the top of the table and stand ten points clear of Sunday’s opponents.

UL registered a 55 -74 win over Montenotte in early November followed by a 85-81 victory two weeks later. However, as the Cork Women proved in their semi final victory over DCU Mercy, the formbook goes out the window when it comes to a Cup Final.
