Defending champion John Higgins called on all of his battling qualities to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Royal London Watches Grand Prix.

The Wishaw player survived a real scare against Matthew Stevens in the pair’s eagerly-anticipated last 16 showdown at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
