Alonso retains crown
Fernando Alonso today became the eighth driver to retain the Formula One world championship after finishing second at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The 25-year-old Spaniard succeeds title rival Michael Schumacher as the sport’s youngest ever double world champion, as well as joining an elite group of back-to-back winners which includes the German.
Today’s race was won by Schumacher’s Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa, with the seven-time champion finishing fourth in the final race of his career after starting 10th on the grid.
