Franck Montagny has signed a deal with Toyota to become the team’s third driver for the 2007 Formula One season.

The 28-year-old Frenchman takes up the role as current test drivers, Ricardo Zonta and Jarno Trulli, are heading to Renault and into retirement respectively.

“To join the ranks of a world-class car manufacturer is a privilege and a great opportunity for my career,” said Montagny.

“I intend to make the best of this opportunity in regard to the continuation of my career in Formula One.”

Montagny was a test driver for Renault from 2003 to 2005 before joining Super Aguri for this season, starting in seven grands prix before taking up testing duties.
