Defending champion Mark Skaife was the fastest qualifier for Sunday’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama, but his efforts have been overshadowed by a serious accident in an earlier support race.

With the event already set to be remembered as the first since the death of Australian motorsport legend Peter Brock, Fujitsu series drivers Mark Porter and David Clark were badly injured in a three-car incident.
