McNish well placed as title beckons
Scotsman Allan McNish will line up on the front row at Mosport after the Canadian weather wiped out qualifying.
McNish can clinch the American Le Mans Series title this weekend and he is optimistic after Audi co-driver Rinaldo Capello’s pace in practice.
The Italian’s efforts earned second on the grid when officials were forced to turn to practice times to make up the grid after heavy rain.
McNish said: “Dindo set a sterling lap time in dry practice which ultimately proved critical in earning us second place on the grid.
“Our Audi had a good balance in the wet enabling me to set a good time but the weather deteriorated.
“From a personal viewpoint, I believe it was the correct decision to cancel qualifying – regardless of where we would have been on the grid – conditions were getting dangerous.”
