Cullen sets new personal best in 5000m final

Irish athlete Mary Cullen has recorded a new personal best time of 15:25.08 today, finished 12th in the final of the women’s 5000m today at the European Championships in Gothenburg.

Irish athlete Mary Cullen has recorded a new personal best time of 15:25.08 today, finished 12th in the final of the women’s 5000m today at the European Championships in Gothenburg.

Cullen managed to shave a massive 16 seconds off her previous time, but Marie Davenport, who had also competed in the 10,000m earlier in the week, had to drop out.

The race was eventually won by Marta Domínguez from Spain in a time of 14:56.18, breaking Sonia O’Sullivan’s record set in Budapest at the 1998 championships.
