Barry Murphy breaks Irish 100 metres freestyle record
Barry Murphy has broken the Irish record for the 100 metres freestyle event at the European Swimming Championships in Hungary.
The Dubliner finished his heat in a time of 50.79 seconds, beating Earl McCarthy's 11-year-old record of 50.91 seconds.
Murphy was quickest off the blocks and fastest over the first 50 metres, but he ended up finishing third in the heat and failed to make the semi-finals of the event.
