Unnamed Irish athlete tests positive for banned drug - report

Another Irish athlete has reportedly tested positive for banned drugs, according to media reports today.

No details of the case have been disclosed, but reports this morning said the sportsman was understood to be a male athlete who is not among Ireland's elite stars.

Cork athlete Cathal Lombard was banned for two years in 2004 after admitting taking the banned substance EPO.

The previous year, Carlow runner Geraldine Hendricken was also banned for the same period after she tested positive for nandrolone, which she said was accidentally ingested.
