Ireland finish eighth at women's hockey tournament
Ireland finished eighth at the women’s World Cup qualifying tournament in Rome after losing 2-1 to New Zealand.
After a goalless first half Stacey Carr fired the Black Sticks into 44th-minute lead, only for Eimear Cregan to hit back immediately with the equaliser.
The winner came 10 minutes later when goalkeeper Angela Platt got a touch to Clarissa Eshuis’ penalty corner but could not keep it out.
