Manning magic in A1 GP
Yorkshireman Darren Manning made a stunning A1 Grand Prix debut for Great Britain by snatching second on the grid in China today.
Thirty-year-old Manning, who was sacked by his Indy Racing League team midway through last season, impressed on his debut as a stand-in for Robbie Kerr.
Manning took second spot, ensuring a front-row start alongside ex-Formula One backmarker Alex Yoong, who claimed a surprise pole position.
Series champions France, with Alex Premat at the wheel, start third alongside Mexico’s Salvador Duran.
Dubliner Michael Devaney made a competent return to the Ireland fold with sixth place.
Yorkshireman Adam Khan, driving for Pakistan, struggled to 14th on the grid for tomorrow’s first race in Shanghai.
