Carna Transport Mercy crowned women’s champions
Carna Transport Mercy 73 Vienna Woods Glanmire 64
Mercy overcame Glanmire in a closely fought encounter against Vienna Woods Glanmire to be crowned Women’s SuperLeague Regular Season Champions.
This was a good game between the top two teams in the league with rarely more than four points separating the teams.
Mercy had a great start with a strong first quarter, and led by 23 to 12. Glanmire came back with a high scoring second quarter, lead by Denise Walshe and just trailed by five points at the half, 36-31.
Glanmire’s head coach Mark Scannell coach constantly changed defense to try and disrupt Mercy’s rhythm but Mercy stayed in control with good play by Sarah Hughes and Lindsey Peat.
Two minutes into the last quarter the sides were level at 58 points each. Some big shots by Suzanne McQuire and Tracy Gahan saw Mercy take the lead with five minutes to go.
With Glanmire still pressing to get level, a well run offense by Mercy produced a big basket for Mercy’s Vivienne Shaw to go up by five points.
Mercy then capitalised on Glanmire’s foul trouble and sealed the game 73-64 from the foul line.
