Green light for Sonia
Sonia O’Sullivan has been cleared to run for Australia in the Commonwealth Games, according to Australian media reports.
The Irishwoman has been given permission to compete for her adopted homeland by the Commonwealth Games Federation, according to The Age newspaper.
O’Sullivan, a 36-year-old who has two Australian children by her partner and manager Nic Bideau, was granted citizenship last week.
She will still be able to compete for the Republic of Ireland in this year’s European Championships in August.
Nigerian sprinter Ambrose Ezenwa has similarly been cleared to compete for the host nation in Melbourne.
