Super Aguri land Bridgestone deal
Bridgestone have confirmed they will supply tyres to Formula One’s newest team, Super Aguri.
The new team, who are backed by Honda, were only officially confirmed on the 2006 grid last week.
They have already secured Honda engines and, as expected, will complete an all-Japanese car by using Bridgestone tyres.
Hiroshi Yasukawa, director of Bridgestone motorsport, said: “The Super Aguri team is a new but ambitious team and we are delighted that it has chosen Bridgestone to be its official supplier.
“Bridgestone has had a long relationship with the team’s founder, Aguri Suzuki, spanning more than 20 years and encompassing numerous motorsport series.
“Consequently, we have every confidence in his ability and desire to run a successful and professional team.
“The Super Aguri team’s inaugural season will not be an easy one but we wish them the very best of luck in 2006 and we look forward to seeing them in action shortly.”
Super Aguri are likely to keep the Japanese theme going when it comes to drivers as well, with Takuma Sato certain to lead the team.
Yuji Ide, Sakon Yamamoto and Roger Yasukawa are vying to be his team-mate.
