New link-up for Williams

Williams hope to gain an edge over their Formula One rivals this year thanks to their partnership with missile makers QinetiQ.

The Cosworth-powered team today announced an extension to the sponsorship deal with QinetiQ, a deal which sees their expertise in high-tech defence systems applied to Formula One.

Among their arsenal, QinetiQ build land and air-based missiles as well as land mines and ‘electrothermal chemical guns’ for armies around the world.

As well as having their logo on the new Williams, QinetiQ will also share their knowledge of aerospace technologies with the team.

Sir Frank Williams said: “To date, QinetiQ have opened the door to several interesting technologies which may be of help to us in the future.

“So I’m delighted that they have decided to extend their association with the team and look forward to our continued partnership.”
