Cold snap cuts into fixtures list

The wintry weather bit into the day’s sporting programme with a number of fixtures being called off across the country.

The Coca-Cola Football League lost eight of its matches and race meetings at Catterick and Newbury also abandoned.

Chester’s League Two encounter with Wrexham, scheduled to kick-off at noon, was the first of the football fixtures to be postponed.

The evening League One matches between Bournemouth and Barnsley, Doncaster and Brentford, and Milton Keynes Dons and Nottingham Forest also fell victim after pitch inspections.

In League Two, Boston v Carlisle, Notts County v Northampton, Peterborough v Oxford and Shrewsbury v Macclesfield succumbed to the cold snap.
