Olsson sets Glasgow target

Olympic triple-jump champion Christian Olsson has targeted an end to his 16-month injury nightmare with an appearance at the Kelvin Hall on January 28.

The Swede, 25, has been battling with an ankle problem since September 2004 but is hoping to defend his world indoor title in Moscow next March.

Olsson is set to meet doctors over the next fortnight before confirming his appearance in the Norwich Union international in Glasgow.

He said: “I am eager to be back competing in the indoor season and to have the opportunity to defend my world title in Moscow. I have targeted the Glasgow match on January 28 for my return.

“But I will only compete indoors if I am 100% ready and I should find out within the next couple of weeks whether that will be possible.”

Sweden are also hoping to see Olympic heptathlon champion Carolina Kluft and world high-jump gold medallist Kajsa Bergqvist competing in Glasgow.
