New technical chief excited by Red Bull opportunity

Red Bull Racing’s new chief technical officer Adrian Newey admits he is excited by the challenge he faces.

Newey is leaving McLaren after more than eight years to join Red Bull, having enjoyed success with them and Williams prior to that.

“I feel it is time for a change. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at McLaren,” said the 40-year-old Newey.

“Red Bull is a much younger organisation but I am excited by the opportunity to develop the car, team and facilities working closely with (team boss) Christian Horner and his colleagues.

“I have been impressed by their plans and their commitment.”

Newey will continue work with McLaren until the end of January helping them develop the new MP4-21 before taking up his role with Red Bull at the end of February.
