Defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan overcame a scare to book his place in this year’s Grand Prix final in Preston but then immediately declared “I’m bored with snooker”.

The world number one was pushed all the way by Kent potter Barry Hawkins but eventually triumphed 6-5 and took a step closer retaining the title he won last year at the Guild Hall.
