Newey to extend McLaren stay

McLaren technical director Adrian Newey has confirmed he will remain with the Woking-based team for the 2006 Formula One season.

Newey, one of the most highly-regarded figures in Formula One, had planned to take a lengthy break from the sport once his contract expires in January.

But Newey has now put his sabbatical on hold as he told Autosport: “I had intended to have a rest, but for the moment this step can wait. I will be at McLaren in 2006.”
