Belfast Giants enjoy massive investment boost
Canadian software businessman Jim Yaworski is to become a new shareholder in Belfast Giants after the Elite League club announced a €1m deal.
Giants general manager John Elliott also revealed they are hoping to develop an affiliation with a major National Hockey League outfit and that the club’s new coach – following Tony Hand’s departure to Edinburgh Capitals – could be confirmed in days.
Elliott said: “This is a fantastic piece of news for our club, for all Giants fans and indeed for sport in Northern Ireland.
“Jim has kept a very keen eye on the Belfast Giants ever since he met player Shane Johnson on a plane a few years back. When the opportunity arose to start discussions about investment, Jim was very positive about the image the Belfast Giants have both here in Northern Ireland and across the globe.
“I’m delighted to welcome Jim on to our team – we now know we can take the Giants forward into the future with confidence."
Elliott has confirmed, however, the Odyssey Arena outfit have withdrawn from the Challenge Cup for the new season.
