McLaren impress in Silverstone testing
McLaren continued their current dominance by setting the fastest times in testing at Silverstone today.
The team, who have been the fastest on track in the last four grands prix, took the top two spots for the second day in a row, with Kimi Raikkonen pipping test driver Pedro de la Rosa to the honour.
Jenson Button showed an encouraging turn of speed following his disappointment at the Nurburgring and set the fourth quickest lap for BAR-Honda. David Coulthard also showed well to give Red Bull sixth place.
Sauber were thinking ahead at Monza where they put the finishing touches to their preparations for the United States Grand Prix.
The Swiss team entrusted Felipe Massa to fine-tune their car prior to the Indianapolis race later this month and they declared themselves happy with the results.
Formula One race teams have no chance to test after they fly to Canada next week and Sauber’s chief race engineer Jacky Eeckelaert said: “The focus was on the United States Grand Prix.
“Felipe used particularly the morning to set the car up according to his driving style. Later he assessed several Michelin tyres for Indianapolis to enable us to make a first decision this evening.
“Tomorrow he will verify the gathered aerodynamic data for us, but will also further work with Michelin on the tyre selection for Indianapolis.”
Marc Gene was the fastest man on track for Ferrari, with Massa the only other driver to record a lap.
