Schumacher pleased with new car

World champion Michael Schumacher has described Ferrari’s new car as a “good step forward” after testing it for the first time.

The German got behind the wheel of the new Ferrari at Mugello and was relieved to discover it an improvement on the current model.

Schumacher has struggled in the first two races of the season with a modified version of Ferrari’s 2004 car, with just his hard-earned seventh in Malaysia to show for his efforts.

“It’s always great to drive a new car and today that applied even more so, after how things went in Malaysia last weekend,” he said.

“What I can say after the first day of testing is that the new car seems to be a good step forward compared to what we had before.”
