Carroll available for European Championships

Former 3,000metres title holder Mark Carroll has confirmed his availability to compete for Ireland in next month’s European Indoor Championships.

Carroll, winner of the title five years ago, is expected to be included in the squad travelling to Madrid when selectors meet next weekend.

The Irish record-holder recently ran the second fastest time of his career of seven minutes 46.60seconds when beating highly-rated American Alan Webb over 3,000m in Boston.

Alastair Cragg, who has the world’s fastest 3,000m this year, is already picked so Ireland currently have the two fastest European runners for the event.
