Three-time semi-finalist Peter Evison has warned Andy Jenkins, his next opponent in the Ladbrokes.com World Championship, not to underestimate him.
The ‘Fen Tiger’, who also won the World Matchplay during his heyday of the mid-1990s, has been far from impressed by the way Jenkins has been looking beyond their clash towards a possible date with Kevin Painter.
While admitting he has considered retiring at the age of 40 having slipped down the rankings in recent years, Evison believes he could be a force to be reckoned with at Purfleet’s Circus Tavern this week.
A 3-0 demolition of his friend Mark Landers in his opening match will have been a real confidence booster ahead of what is now clearly a grudge match against the world number 10.
“Apparently Andy Jenkins is so good that he has already beaten me,” said Evison, originally from Cambridgeshire but who now lives in Middlesex.
“We will see how good he is. His nickname is ‘Rocky’ and I want to knock him out.”
