Galwayman Francis Barrett reckons he is in line for a European title shot having retained his light welterweight EU belt against Northampton's Alan Bosworth at the Wembley Conference Centre in London.

A typical bullish effort from the 27-year-old Wembley-based Irishman saw him edge the 10 rounds on points - 96-95, 96-93 and 97-93.

"I have a lot of time for him (Bosworth) - he put up a good effort and always gives everything," said Barrett.

"I only know one way in boxing, and that's forward. It was hard to break him down but I knew I had it.

"Hopefully I can get a crack now at the full European belt," he added, following his 16th win in 18 outings.

Barrett has made steady progress since claiming the British Southern Areas title last year.
