Williams could be Vegas-bound

Danny Williams’ heavyweight world title shot may now take place in Las Vegas rather than New York as expected.

Madison Square Garden had been pencilled in as the venue for the 31-year-old Londoner’s clash with WBC champion Vitali Klitschko on December 11.

However, the Ukrainian’s promotion company have now suggested that the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Nevada is a more likely alternative.

It is thought that a Don King bill featuring WBA and IBF heavyweight title fights on November 13 at Madison Square Garden would delay ticket sales for Williams’ bout.

K2 Promotions manager/director Tom Loeffler told the Las Vegas Review Journal: “Mandalay stepped up and offered us a good deal and it made sense to do it there.

“We’re just working out the final terms now. Basically, the attorneys are going over the contracts, but in essence we’ve reached a deal.”

Former British and Commonwealth title holder Williams earned his crack at Klitschko when beating Mike Tyson in Louisville in July.

Klitschko has established himself as the number one heavyweight in the world thanks to a brave loss to the now retired Lennox Lewis prior to taking the WBC title at the second attempt by beating South African Corrie Sanders.
