O'Connor reveals second horse failed drug test

Olympic gold medallist Cian O'Connor is facing another day of controversy after he revealed last night that another of his horses tested positive in a doping test earlier this year.

Tests on the horse, Landliebe, came through positive after a test at the Rome Grand Prix last May.

In a statement, Mr O'Connor said he had received the test result on the same day as the positive results for Waterford Crystal came through.

He said that he had explained to the Federation Equestre International that the animal was treated for colic while in Munich en route to Rome for the Grand Prix.

Mr O'Connor said that his vet had treated both horses with the same medication over a month prior to competing.

The showjumper has again emphatically denied any wrongdoing and he added that he is devastated by the results, not just for himself, but also for the owners, sponsors, and particularly for the people of Ireland.
