Mark Carroll withdraws from Olympic marathon

Irish athlete Mark Carroll has withdrawn from the Olympics marathon event, which takes place this Sunday.

Michael Quinlan, the manager of the Irish athletics team, said: “I think, having seen the women’s marathon the other day and seen the gruelling conditions in which they had to participate, he made the decision not to participate in that particular event.”
