Greek Athletes to learn their fate
Two top Greek athletes will today learn if they will be banned from competing in the Olympics following a drugs scandal.
The International Olympics Committee will hold a disciplinary meeting to give sprinters Kostas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou the opportunity to explain why they missed a drugs test last Thursday in the Olympic village in Athens.
The pair, who explained their absence by saying they had been involved in a motorcycle accident, face a potential two-year ban for missing the test.
The scandal has plunged the Games into a crisis, with some countries threatening to pull out if the two Greek athletes are allowed to compete.
Kenteris left hospital in Athens yesterday denying he was a drugs cheat and telling his critics: “After crucifixion comes resurrection.”
Thanou said she felt “bitter” over recent events.
