Injury to horse rules out British Olympics rider

Mary King is poised for a dramatic late call-up to compete in the equestrian three-day eventing at Athens after Sarah Cutteridge was ruled out by an injury to her horse, The Wexford Lady.

The British Olympic Association have put forward Cutteridge as their intended replacement, and will now await approval from the Games organising committee.

Cutteridge’s mount suffered an injury when training, and the BOA expect to hear shortly whether King can be promoted.

The British equestrian team leader, Will Connell, said: “The whole team are disappointed for Sarah Cutteridge and the owners of The Wexford Lady.

“However, we look forward to welcoming Mary King into Team GB.

“Mary and King Solomon are already in Athens and are preparing to compete in the three-day event competition.”

King and King Solomon finished fifth at last year’s European Championships.
