BAR receive second blow as appeal rejected

Jenson Button’s BAR team have received another blow just days after their star driver announced his intention to quit.

The Brackley-based team have lost their appeal against a decision to ban them from using a torque control device, which made their car faster around corners.

The device was ruled illegal by stewards in Germany three weeks ago but BAR appealed and, amid the growing furore surrounding Button’s defection to Williams, they have been knocked back.

World governing body the FIA announced the decision this afternoon after a meeting of the International Court of Appeal.

A statement read: “Having heard the explanations of both parties and having examined the various documents and other evidence, the court upheld the decision of the panel of the stewards.”
