Adrian O’Dwyer broke the five-year Irish high jump record with a clearance of 2.3m at an international meeting in Algiers last night.

O’Dwyer added a centimetre to the mark achieved by Brendan O'Reilly five years ago at the World Championships in Seville.

The 20-year-old is rushing back home and will compete in tonight’s Dublin International Games at the Morton Stadium in Santry.

O’Dwyer’s performance moves the Kilkenny athlete to eighth place in this year’s world rankings.
