Sonia in Cork for City Sports

Sonia O'Sullivan today declared the importance of the BUPA Ireland Cork City Sports to her preparations for the Olympic Games.

In Cork for the official launch of the event in the Mardyke Arena, the Cobh athlete said that how her participation in the 5,000m on Saturday, July 3 goes will give her a big indication of what the Games in Athens will hold for her.

“I am really looking forward to taking part,” said O’Sullivan.

“It is always a pleasure to run in Cork. My final Olympic preparations will begin in earnest after the City Sports but the time that I register on July 3 will give me a clear indication of what my time is likely to be in Greece.”

A large crowd of sponsors and supporters attended the launch.

Among them were Derval O’Rourke and the Lord Mayor Cllr. Colm Burke, who paid tribute to the work of the organising committee. “Sport plays a big role in this city and the city sports are always a big highlight,” said Cllr Burke.

“Cork City Council are giving their full backing to the event which now in its 53rd year is bigger than ever.”
