Maloney issues warning to Harrison
Frank Maloney has warned Scott Harrison there will be no margin for error against William Abelyan after the WBO world featherweight champion’s manager endured a depressing weekend in front of the television.
Harrison defends his world title against Armenian Abelyan at the Braehead Arena on June 19.
But Maloney has urged the Cambuslang fighter to be prepared for the “toughest fight of his career”.
He said: “After watching my team Millwall lose to Manchester United in the FA Cup final last Saturday, I wanted to cheer myself up by watching tapes of Abelyan and looking to see what a devastating job Scott was going to do on this kid.
“Instead, it depressed me even more because what I saw was a fighter who could give Scott the toughest fight of his life.
“And, if Harrison is not on sparkling form, then the titles will be changing hands.
“Abelyan is fighter who knows how to box, force the pace, can punch hard and spoil a fighter, depending on who is in front of him.
“His unorthodox style will give Scott problems and may take some working out.
“There was no way Scott was going to fight him whilst he was injured so we asked for a postponement to ensure he recovered and will face Abelyan fully fit.”
But Maloney is convinced his man can triumph in front of his home crowd.
He added: “I’ve said it before, Scott is the best fighter I have ever worked with.
“His commitment, desire and strength is amazing and he will destroy any man who gets in the way of him.
“The challenge that Abelyan represents will certainly be motivating Harrison to a real job on him.”
