Diet does if for Harrison

WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison is thriving on a new dietary regime ahead of his title defence against Armenian challenger William Abelyan at Braehead next month.

The Cambuslang fighter is working again with Dr Niall MacFarlane, a lecturer in physiology at Glasgow University, using a specially adapted training and nutritional schedule.

Dr MacFarlane, however, allows Harrison to eat some foods that he would have had to forego in the past in order to keep his weight down.

Harrison’s father and trainer, Peter Harrison, admits the occasional treats are a welcome bonus for the dedicated Glaswegian champion.

He said: “When we first met Dr MacFarlane after Scott lost against Manuel Medina last year he said he could improve on what we do and so we’re not training blind now.

“Before we were doing things that we thought were good for Scott but which might in fact have been harming him.

“But I think what Scott enjoys most is the fact that he can take frosted cereal for his breakfast.”
