Hunter-Reay sights on F1
Ryan Hunter-Reay wants to become the first American in Formula One for over a decade.
The 23-year-old is currently the top home-grown driver in the United States-based Champ Car series but has his eyes on a step up to grand prix racing soon.
“I’ve never made any secret of the fact that my ultimate dream is Formula One,” said Hunter-Reay, whose Champ Car season begins later this month in Long Beach.
“I had to make some tough decisions this year as I had offers from the Indy Racing League, but I wanted to stay in Champ Cars as I think it’s a great proving ground for Formula One.
“I should say though that, even though my dream is Formula One, I’m still here to win in Champ Car. I want this title as much as I’ve ever wanted anything.”
Michael Andretti – a former Champ Car champion – was the last American in Formula One, but he was axed after just a handful of poor races by McLaren.
