Schumacher considered quitting after Senna death

Six-time world champion Michael Schumacher admits Ayrton Senna’s death a decade ago made him doubt his future in Formula One.

Senna, who won three titles, was killed in a crash at Imola in 1994 and in the run-up to the 10th anniversary of his death, Schumacher has confessed he considered walking away from grand prix racing.

He told his personal website: “I can still see the accident – I was directly behind it.

“It was a terrible weekend anyway because the day before Roland Ratzenberger was killed. It was a shock for me, for everyone.

“When I learned what happened I was upset. It was the first time that I had been confronted with death in my sport. I doubted for a while whether I wanted to continue.”
