Irish 110 metres hurdles record-holder Peter Coghlan looks on target to achieve the Olympic qualifying standard after two victories in the United States over the weekend.

Coghlan opened his outdoor season with successes in Tennessee and again in Athens, Georgia, with times of 13.91 seconds and 13.86secs.

The Castleknock man, one of only three Irishmen ever to have broken 14 seconds for the high hurdles, will now be confident of securing the Olympic qualifying standard of 13.55secs in the next few weeks.

Also in the US over the weekend, Erin Kinnear further improved her Irish pole vault record with a clearance of 3.86 metres in Alabama.
