Misfiring Thorpedo to miss top event

Ian Thorpe will not defend his 400m freestyle title at the Olympic Games after he was today disqualified from the event in the Australian selection trials in Sydney.

The 21-year-old world record holder overbalanced and fell into the water before the starting gun sounded in the qualifying heat.
