Eamonn Magee ends boxing career after Belfast assault

WBU welterweight champion Eamonn Magee has decided to end his boxing career after suffering serious leg injuries during an assault in west Belfast last weekend.

The Ulsterman’s leg was broken in two places when he was dragged from his car by a gang of men and attacked with wooden bats.

He also suffered a puncture lung during the attack, which happened on Black’s Road last Sunday.

The 32-year-old was due to fight Sharma Mitchell for the WBA title next month, but he said yesterday that he would not box again.
