Cup favourites Annadale breezed into this afternoon’s draw for the Men’s Irish Senior Cup quarter finals, with a 4-0 win over leading Leinster outfit Pembroke Wanderers at Lough Moss.
Inspried by Ian Hamilton’s 35th goal of the season late in the first half, Annadale, unbeaten in the Ulster league this season, put a Pembroke side boosting the striking skills of Irish international Justin Sheriff to the sword as a first ever Cup success looks on the cards for the south Belfast club.
Hamilton had a hand in the second goal as it was his shot that rebounded out from the Wanderers’ goal for Paul Jackson to hit home. Further strikes followed for Chris Jackson and a second for 21-year-old Hamilton, with six minutes remaining.
Annadale will be joined in the last eight by five fellow Ulster clubs, with Cookstown winning out 5-2 after extra time at UCD’s Belfield grounds, thanks to a Godfrey Irwin hat-trick and a brace of goals from Irish international Andy Barbour.
Elsewhere Cork Harlequins’ David Eakins scored four in his side’s 6-1 battering of Dublin University at Santry, and 22-times winners Lisnagarvey, helped by a double-strike from attacker Kevin Lunn, saw off Bangor after extra time in Banbridge.
