Kevin Painter made a confident start in the final of the Ladbrokes.com World Championship against 10-time champion Phil Taylor, clinching the opening leg with a 136 checkout.

Taylor nailed double six to level up in the next, but Painter took out 96 to open up a two legs to one lead.

’The Power’ hit back again with double top before Painter nailed double 16 with his second dart to take the first set.

Taylor, who lost to John Part in one of the most memorable finals ever witnessed at the Circus Tavern last year, checked out on 164 at the start of the second set.

Taylor had started to find his range and he took out 120 to move 2-1 ahead.

However, Painter responded with a 13-darter and followed with a 100 checkout, nailing double top twice, to open a two-set lead.
