Reds outfielder shot dead
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Dernell Stenson has been found dead in Chandler, Arizona, after apparently being shot and run over by a vehicle.
Chandler police found the 25-year-old’s body on Wednesday, lying in a roadway on the 2200 block of West Butler Drive shortly after receiving a report that gunshots were fired at approximately 1.45am.
Witnesses informed police that a black sports utility vehicle left the scene and two hours later, a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo was found.
The driver of the vehicle is being detained by police as the investigation continues.
Stenson, who was playing in the Arizona Fall League at the time of his death, made his Major League debut with the Reds this past season.
The ball club said in a statement: “We extend our prayers and deepest sympathies to Dernell’s family and his friends, team-mates and coaches.”
