McKinstry leads Fastnet Rally

After four of the eight stages of the Glandore based Marine Hotel Fastnet Rally, Kenny McKinstry in a

Subaru WRC has a commanding 33 second advantage over the Subaru WRC of Michael Barrable.

West Cork driver, Liam McCarthy, in a Toyota Corolla WRC, a further 12 seconds adrift.

McKinstry posted the fastest time on the first stage and opened up a six second lead over Melvyn Evans, who retired some two stages later with a broken manifold.

McKinstry backed off on SS 3 where Barrable clawed back some five seconds, however, the Banbridge driver gained 13 seconds on the fourth stage to stretch his lead to 31 seconds.

Behind Barrable is local ace, Liam McCarthy, with Patrick Elliott (Subaru WRC) and Ollie O’Donovan

(Subaru) completing the top five.

Pete Doughty in an Escort WRC, is sixth.

Steve Fleck and Denis Cronin share eighth place and another local driver, Kieran O’Callaghan (Mitsubishi) completes the top ten.
