Formula 3000 champ to test Jordan car

Sweden’s Bjorn Wirdheim, who swept to the Formula 3000 title this season, will drive the Jordan-Ford Formula One car in the private test at the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis on Friday.

“I’m delighted to give Bjorn this opportunity,” said team chief Eddie Jordan.

“He did a good job for us testing in Monza earlier this month and it’s great to see top talent from the junior motorsport series proving themselves in Formula One.

“The last Swedish F1 driver, Stefan Johansson, was my team-mate many years ago and I’ve always had links with Sweden, which is why I’m particularly pleased that we are able to work with Bjorn at this event.”

Wirdheim, who won three races on his way to the F3000 crown, tested at Monza ahead of the Italian Grand Prix 10 days ago.
