White completes scorching double

American Kelli White completed the women’s sprint double when she scorched to a brilliant 200 metres victory in the World Championships at the Stade de France.

The 26-year-old White, who claimed the 100m title on Sunday, ran a superb bend to shatter her personal best with a time of 22.05 seconds – easily the fastest half lap in the world this year.

White stormed home fully two metres ahead of her nearest rival to become only the third woman to complete the sprint double in the 20-year history of the championships.

“I am in a little bit of pain to tell you the truth,” said White afterwards.

“I was cramping up towards the end and I am really tired after this week. It was not easy at all, I just got out really well from the blocks and as I was not sure how far behind me they were, I just kept pushing through the home straight until I had it.”
