Having to defend his lead for most of the race, Cork’s, Joseph Daly took the chequered flag in today’s Formula 125 race at the Irish 'O' Plate Karting Championship at Watergrasshill.

Having to defend his lead for most of the race, Cork’s, Joseph Daly took the chequered flag in today’s Formula 125 race at the Irish 'O' Plate Karting Championship at Watergrasshill.

Gavin Craige started from pole but lost out at the first corner as Daly slipped through.

Craige then posted the fastest laps and quickly regained touch with Daly. On a number of occasions, he tried to overtake but Daly was in no mood to yield and drove a very tactical race, taking victory ahead of Craige and Fergus Faherty.

James McCarthy from Fermoy was a clear winner of the new Junior Eire category. He finished ahead of Patrick McKenna and Cheryl Murphy.

Fellow Fermoy karter, Ronan Corcoran won the prestigious Formula A race and Neil Graham was

victorious in the Junior Max category.

Robert Cregan led from pole to win the Junior Restricted and a truncated Cadet race was won by Alan Farrelly.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Ivan Thompson (Super ProKarts); James Tumulty (Rotax Max)

and Andrew Fagan (ProKarts).

In the ALMC Rally at Carrickmacross, Tim NcNulty, driving a Subaru WRC finished the nine stage event some 40 seconds ahead of the Subaru WRC of Patrick Elliott with the Toyota Celica of Tom Holton another nine seconds adrift in third.

2. P. Elliott/M. Cahill (Subaru WRC) 52m. 09s.

3. T. Holton/S. Walsh (Toyota Celica) 52m. 18s.

Kenny McKinstry’s win in Saturday’s Triton Showers Lurgan Park Rally was his 10th in the event.

Driving a Subaru WRC, he finished 4.1 seconds ahead of the Subaru WRC of Eugene Donnelly with Denis Biggerstaff in a Metro a further 10.8 seconds behind in third.
