Harrison may face wait for Medina
Former WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison may have to wait until next year for a rematch with Manuel Medina.
Promoter Frank Warren today revealed that the World Boxing Organisation have ordered Medina, who took the belt away from Harrison earlier this month, to make a mandatory defence against Mexican countryman Barrera.
Scottish hero Harrison had been hoping for a shot at world number one Barrera, the man who burst Prince Naseem Hamed’s bubble, before Medina pulled off a dramatic upset win in Glasgow.
Warren explained: “The WBO have told Medina that he must defend against Barrera within 90 days so it doesn’t look good for Scott.
“But I haven’t given up hope and maybe we can work on it and see if something can be done.”
The WBO’s decision will come as a blow to Harrison, who is eager to get back in the ring with veteran Medina and prove that he has what it takes at the highest level.
